Emthonjeni Community Centre

 Fourways Group employees rolled up their sleeves and donated an entire fields worth of compost to renew the grass on the soccer field at the Emthonjeni Community Centre. The field is used by Emthonjeni School in Zandspruit informal settlement, and the community for sport-related activities. JHB employees worked around the field, offloading compost using wheelbarrows, while others assisted by spreading it out and levelling the ground using gardening tools done in shifts. Fourways Group values the importance of community outreach. The compost was delivered the day before Mandela Day. Our job was to spread it on the field on Mandela Day and then wait for water trucks to come in and irrigate the field. Rehabilitating the field was very important because of the role it plays in the day-to-day lives of the children of the community. The hard day’s labour was followed by lunch with all the pre-schoolers and stationery packs were also put together and donated to the Grade 1 and 2 classes at Emthonjeni Pre-School.
